Please help stop a bill that would make it easier to build new polluting garbage incinerators in California! AB 2118 (written by Assembly member Matthews from Modesto) attempts to disguise some incineration technologies, such as gasification, pyrolysis and plasma incineration, by wrongly classifying them as "non-combustion."

These incinerator technologies use combustion and emit dioxins, heavy metals and other pollution.

PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL BY APRIL 3, 2006 to the Assembly Natural Resources Committee, which will hold a hearing on this bill on that day. The Chair of this committee is Loni Hancock, Assembly Member for the 14th Assembly District in the East Bay who is a champion of public health and the environment.

Dear Assembly Natural Resources Committee, Thank you for your ongoing commitment to environmental health and resource conservation in California. I am writing to ask this committee to continue to protect public health and conserve resources by opposing AB 2118. Garbage gasification, pyrolysis and plasma incinerators use combustion, and are considered incinerators in Europe. There are many ways in which this bill would make it easier to build new incinerators like these in California. New incinerators would also undermine recycling programs and make it harder to increase recycling and composting. Please protect California communities by opposing AB 2118.
