Eric Lombardi
of EcoCyle will give
a talk on "Redefining Society's
Discards" on July 17. The group
will be publicizing as much as possible
the GDA and its connection to the bigger
context.
Essential
Action will urge people around
the U.S. to call the offices of Senator
Graham of Florida, who is running for
president in 2004, to push against the
inclusion of "waste-to-energy"
as clean, renewable energy source under
the pending Energy bill. The U.S. Senate
is working to pass a dirty, dangerous
energy bill that would harm consumers,
public health and the environment. If
adopted, the U.S. garbage incinerator
industry will qualify for tax breaks
and incentives, which would encourage
the construction of new garbage incinerators.
Graham is leading the fight to include
incinerators in the said bill as clean,
renewable energy.
Jack Weinberg
of the Global Chemical Safety
Program, Environmental Health Fund
will be in Geneva to lobby delegates
at the NC7 of the Stockholm Convention
on POPs.
The Citizens
Leading for Environmental Action and
Responsibility, Green Delaware, Silicon
Valley Toxics Coalition, USA and the
Tri-Estate Environmental Council are
taking part in the Global Day of Action
against waste incineration.
