The Berkeley Ecology Center and GAIA organized a Zero Waste Fellowship for activists from NGO's around the world, to continue to combat the construction garbage incinerators in their respective countries and provide an alternate vision of Zero Waste. The fellows are all active in Zero Waste programs in their home countries, and the goal of the fellowship is to provide a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences to reduce waste. The fellowship also provided hands-on training in setting up recycling and related programs, as well as insights into the role of NGOs, public education and policymaking in promoting waste reduction.

The Fellowship was held last June 25 to July 13, 2002 in Berkeley, California, USA.
